'From Zero to Hero' Course Content:
MODULE 1: INTRODUCTION
You're not a natural when it comes to using online courses? No worries, I've got you covered. Module 1 is the onboarding module in which you find all the information needed to navigate the course platform, to get ready for the course and how to make the most out of it!
MODULE 2: TOOLS AND TOOL HANDLING
In module 2, you'll learn all about the equipment we use for leading training. Focusing on exercises is hard when you feel awkward handling a rope and whip! This module explains how to fit a halter, and how to handle rope, whip, and flag. We'll also talk about body language, the ethics of using equipment, how to approach your horse to be haltered, how to halter with consent, and much more!
MODULE 3: THE SPACE BETWEEN US
Becoming mindful of the space between us makes training on the ground so much easier. In Module 3, we'll talk about friends, followers and leaders, about personal space and how to respect space or ask for space. I'll invite you to learn about your horse's rules and your own rules, the benefits of breaks, and how to improve focus in the training.
MODULE 4: LEADING TRAINING
Module 4 breaks down leading training into easy, achievable steps. We cover simple exercises such as how to walk, stop, turn, go slower and faster, back up, and change direction. In the more advanced leading exercises, we'll speak about rhythm, leading from the outside, leading arena patterns, leading in trot, in unfamiliar places, and how to go for walks. In addition, you'll get an exercise sequence to test your skills.
MODULE 5: LEADING WITH DISTANCE
The leading exercises in module 4 are going well? Great, let's refine the communication with your horse even more! In module 5, you'll learn all about leading with distance. We'll speak about how to get and keep your horse at a distance and how to do the same exercises as in module 4, but now on a longer line. We will also cover shoulder yields and leading with distance in trot, leading over obstacles, and I will tell you how this work can be used for trailer loading. Again, you will get a sequence to test your skills.
MODULE 6: THE GROUNDWORK POSITION
As a bonus, I'll introduce you to the academic groundwork position: walking backwards in front of the horse. I will tell you about why this position is so beneficial, and how to start using it. By the end of this module, you'll be ready to learn academic groundwork with your horse.
MODULE 7: Q&A
Encountering difficulties? Module 7 covers many challenges and how to solve them, such as what to do with a nippy horse, how to deal with a horse that doesn't want to start moving or keeps stopping, how to stop a speedy horse, what to do with a horse that glues to you and you can't get distance between you, how to deal with a pushy horse or a very distracted horse, and much more. This module will grow with you, and you're welcome to ask your questions!
MODULE 8: COURSE SUMMARY AND OUTLOOK
Congratulations, you completed the course! You now have a solid foundation on the ground and are ready for the next adventures. In module 8, we will do a course summary. I will explain about lesson options, and I will give you a glimpse of the academic groundwork, where horse and human dance together in the side movements and in which we can introduce the most advanced exercises to the horse.
